Shirati Hospital is located in northwestern Tanzania
along Lake Victoria near the Kenyan border in the Tarime District of the
Mara Region. Shirati consists of a great number of villages spread along
the northeast coast of Lake Victoria, just south of the border with Kenya.
Eighty (80) percent of the population lives below the UN poverty line.
Villages in the area consist of farming and fishing families. Shirati
is located two hours from the closest town and 5 hours from the nearest
main city. The hospital is owned by Kanisa la Mennonite Tanzania (KMT)
who elects the Board of Directors through the Executive Committee.
Other Locations
Nyarero
This Health Center is headed by a Clinical Officer who is assisted by
a Nurse Officer In charge. The center has 30 beds and is able to provide
many of the services which are available at Shirati Hospital. However
the Health Center does not perform any surgical procedure.
Burere & Nyamasanda
These two centers are our smallest Health Centers with 10 beds each. Each
center is headed by a clinical officer and provides only out-patient services.
